Back-to-back Diving World Series silver for Daley and Reid

Tom Daley and Grace Reid continued their respective preparations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games with silver in Fuji

Tom Daley and Grace Reid continued their respective preparations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games with silver in Fuji – their second successive runners-up spot in the FINA Diving World Series.

World Championship silver medallists last summer in Budapest, the duo will be aiming to star on the Gold Coast next month, albeit with Daley competing for England and Reid for Scotland.

But it was diving together that they excelled on Saturday, as they repeated their mixed 3m synchro result from Beijing last weekend with another silver in Japan.

Gold was comfortably claimed by China’s Wang Han and Li Zheng on 328.50 points with Daley and Reid second on 299.25, marginally ahead of Russia’s Nadezhda Bazhina and Nikita Shleikher.

Their silver was aided by a strong third round where their inward three and a half somersaults in pike position scored 72.00 and guaranteed them a podium finish.

Earlier in the week Daley finished fourth in the men’s 10m synchro alongside Dan Goodfellow, while the latter also placed tenth in the men’s 3m springboard.

Matty Lee and Lois Toulson also came close to adding to their bronze from last weekend when they finished fifth in the mixed 10m synchro.

And Reid placed sixth in the women’s 3m springboard with Lee seventh in the men’s 10m platform, meaning he did not reach the final.

The Commonwealth Games are held on Australia’s Gold Coast from April 4-15.
