Archers hit the target

Team GB archers Alison Williamson and Larry Godfrey won their first National Series Grand Final titles in Oxford.

Godfrey, the best of the six home participants at London 2012 with a last-16 exit, ended team-mate Simon Terry's three-year reign as champion and has qualified for the World Cup Grand Final in Tokyo as a result.

Six-time Olympian Williamson lost in the first round of the Olympics but defeated Naomi Folkard to secure her maiden success in the competition.

"The Olympics was a big disappointment, but it wasn't to be," said Godfrey.

"Winning this title is a timely boost, and now I can concentrate on finishing the year strongly with a good performance in Tokyo - I can't wait, because I've had a great year, and was so disappointed I couldn't reflect that at Lord's."

Williamson added: "I'm delighted - this is our big domestic event of the year, we all want to win it, and to take the gold medal is a big thrill."
