Ansley confident for Germany World League Final clash

Giselle Ansley is adamant England’s women will be better for their defeat to the Netherlands at the Argentina Hockey World League Final as they prepare to play Germany.

England surrendered a 2-1 lead to the Olympic champions in their second pool encounter, two goals in the last three minutes seeing the Dutch run out 3-2 winners.

Next up are Germany, who defeated England on penalties in the final of the European Championships back in August, with both having now lost to the Netherlands.

And Ansley insists she saw enough in the performance against the Dutch, who England beat to set up a European final with Germany, to feel confident going into their final pool match.

“We’ve had a day to recover now and we look forward to playing Germany in the final pool game,” she said.

“We gave it everything out there and I thought it was a positive performance for the majority of the game but it was disappointing in the last three minutes to let in two goals.

“It’s still early stages in this tournament and we’ve got plenty more games to keep fighting. The Dutch came at us hard in the first half and defensively we matched them for pace and diligence, which is very positive.”
