Another silver for GB at Track World Championships

Great Britain clinched women's team pursuit silver at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships - and Neah Evans is now looking to go one better at this year's Olympics.

Evans replaced four-time Olympic champion Laura Kenny who bravely helped the team to the final with a broken shoulder.

Kenny cheered on from the sidelines in Berlin as Evans, Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Ellie Dickinson pushed United States hard before losing by almost two seconds.

GB won the title at Rio 2016 and Evans is aiming to repeat that success in Tokyo later this year.

"This is a stepping stone on the way to Tokyo,” Evans said. "When you are so close you want to take gold, but we have to take the positives.

It was GB's second silver medal of the championships following a second-placed finish for Jack Carlin, Jason Kenny and Ryan Owens in men's team sprint yesterday.

Carlin had the chance to add another medal today after reaching the men's keirin final that did not include Kenny who missed out on a place in the medal race.

The six-time Olympic champion finished eighth before Carlin had to settle for fourth as Holland's Harrie Lavreysen took gold in a time of 9.861 seconds.

There was also disappointment for Matt Walls who missed out on a medal in the men's scratch race, finishing in fourth position as Belarusian Yauheni Karaliok came out on top.

But Walls refused to be downhearted as he looks to learn from the experience.

"It was a pretty fast scratch race with a lot of things going on to get your head around and it was a definite improvement on last year," Walls added.

"It is the most gutting place to finish but it is one of them you come away and learn from it and hopefully do better next time."
