Chris Adcock and Gabby White continued their recent impressive form but couldn't claim the mixed doubles title at badminton's Bitburger Open in Saarbrucken.
Adcock and White have beaten the world champions and twice pushed the Olympic champions close in recent weeks as they have steadily climbed the world rankings.
But the second seeds were beaten 21-19, 21-15 in a closely fought final with German top seeds Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels.
The pair, who recently married, are currently ranked 13th in the world and will now turn their focus to the remaining Super Series tournaments in China and Hong Kong.
The British number ones are one of four pairs sharing fifth place in the current series rankings with the top eight qualifying for the finals in Kuala Lumpur.
