Biography

Khalid Yafai made his Olympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. He competed in the mens boxing Fly Weight (51kg) catagory and lost to Andris Affita Hernandes of Cuba in the round of 16. At the 2009 World Championships Yafai made it to the quarter-final but lost 9-3 points to Germany’s Ronny Beblik. In February 2008 in an Olympic qualifying tournament in Pescara, Italy Yafai beat Igor Samoilenco at to secure his Olympic Games quota place, before losing final to Norbert Kalucza (HUN). In 2007 he won the Donbus Cup and won bronze in Strandja Tournament BUL 2008. Yafai was previously known as Khalid Said, his brother, Gamal Yafai, is a promising young boxer with London 2012 potential
