Biography

Ben Hawes competed in his second Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, where he captained the mens team to fifth in the tournament.

Hawes was also a member of England mens hockey squad which won gold at the 2009 European Hockey Championships.

With 125 England and 90 Great Britain appearances to his name, Ben is one of the most experienced players in the current squad, making his international debut prior to the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester.  . 

He captained the side to gold in the 2008 Olympic qualifiers in Chile and 5th place at the Beijing Olympic Games, and was a member of the Great Britain squad at the Athens 2004 Olympics Games, where he scored in the opening 3–1 win over Egypt. 

Hawes has also played also played in 2 World Cups and three European Championships, picking up a Bronze Medal in Barcelona in 2003 alongside his Gold in 2009. Following successful reconstructive ankle surgery in 2011 he came back into the GB squad for his third Olympic cycle.

Ben is also a member of the BOA athletes commission.
